LODGE LOCATIONS

Today's Danish Sisterhood has many lodges located throughout the United States and Canada. We are proud to be the largest organization of Danish women in North America.

Membership in the Danish Sisterhood is an opportunity to become active in a local lodge. A lodge provides socialization with other women and men interested in Denmark and the chance to learn more about Danish customs and traditions.

Through their monthly meetings local lodges offer a variety of benefits including guest speakers, language lessons, cooking demonstrations, travel logs, civic projects and Danish craft lessons. Every lodge is unique and brings Denmark to life for its members in a variety of ways.

If there is not a lodge located near you, we would like to invite you to join our virtual lodge the Tivoli Lodge. Tivoli Lodge members stay connected by their own Facebook group.

We would also welcome the opportunity to work with you to establish a new lodge in your hometown. See the link "Organizing a Lodge" for complete details on how to start a lodge.

Today's Danish Sisterhood has lodges located throughout the United States and Canada. We are proud to be the largest organization of Danish women.

Membership in the Danish Sisterhood is an opportunity to become active in a local lodge. A lodge provides socialization with other men and women interested in Denmark and the chance to learn more about Danish customs and traditions.

Through their monthly meetings local lodges offer a variety of benefits including guest speakers, language lessons, cooking demonstrations, travel logs, civic projects and Danish craft lessons. Every lodge is unique and brings Denmark to life for its members in a variety of ways.

If there is not a lodge located near you we would invite you to join our national lodge, through an Individual Membership. We would also welcome the opportunity to work with you to establish a new lodge in your hometown. See the link "Organize a Lodge" for complete details on how to start a lodge.

Organizing a new Danish Sisterhood Lodge can be a gratifying experience. You need a minimum of 10 people - that are Danish, of Danish descent, or with a strong interest in Denmark and things Danish - to establish a local lodge. Your local lodge will be part of the national organization-The Danish Sisterhood of America, which will connect you to members across the United States and Canada.

Recruiting Prospective Members

There are a variety of ways to recruit prospective members. The following list can help start your recruitment efforts. Sample ads, informational brochures and other promotional materials are available through the Sisterhood National Board.

  • Place ads, news releases, notices or public service announcements in local newspapers and radio stations. The National Organization will reimburse new lodges up to $50.00 towards placement of paid advertising.
  • Distribute Danish Sisterhood informational brochures in gift shops, bakeries, furniture stores, etc. Stores that carry Scandinavian or other ethnic items may be especially good locations.
  • Place brochures in libraries, colleges, universities, or other public buildings.
  • Contact other ethnic organizations in the community and request their assistance in locating prospective members.
  • Contact travel agents, foreign language teachers, and university professors or anyone that may have contact with individuals interested in Danish heritage.
  • Compile a mailing list of possible contacts. Sources may include telephone books, churches, service or civic organizations.
  • Send a brochure, meeting information and promotional items to those who respond to any of the recruitment efforts.
  • Follow up with a personal contact encouraging their participation.

Hosting An Informational Meeting

When enough people have responded to your promotional efforts, you will organize an informational meeting. Select a meeting location that will be convenient for prospective members. A community hall, library, church, private home, or bank's meeting room are possible locations. Use the media to publicize the meeting date, time and location. Include the purpose of the meeting, who is invited to attend, and mention that the Danish Sisterhood of America is the sponsoring organization.

We Can Help! For Assistance in Organizing a Local Lodge Contact:
Karin Wasler, National Trustee - trustee3@danishsisterhood.com

A promotional kit consists of small Sisterhood items such as membership applications, brochures, bookmarks, heart calendars and what other items may be available. These kits will be available to local lodges for use at local events for the purpose of promoting Danish Sisterhood membership. For example, if there is a Heritage Festival in your area, and your Lodge decides to participate by setting up a booth or table at the festival, you can request a promotional kit by filling out a "Request for Promotional Kit" form. Copies of this form will be made available to the delegates at the District Conventions, and can also be obtained by contacting the Membership Chairman.

The form is very simple to fill out. It will ask for the name of the event, the sponsor of the event, the date, time and location, as well as an anticipated number of visitors. After the event, we ask that you send a short written report, including pictures, with your evaluation of how successful the event was in terms of interested visitors at your Sisterhood "booth". Your feedback will then help us decide if the Promotional Kits are a worthwhile project.

Also available from the National Board, for the purpose of promoting membership, is a $50 grant to help defray expenses for advertising, booth rental, etc. in connection with the event. We can also send you a sample press release. Please note that neither the kit nor the $50 grant is for use at District Conventions.

It is our hope that this Promotion Kit may inspire the lodges across the country to look for suitable events in which they will be able to participate.

Directions on how to request the Sisterhood banner for an event will also be included. You can borrow this banner for any event where it can be useful including District Conventions. We pay for the postage to you and you pay for the postage to return it.
